Home Win is a Dream Come True
The chance to win your first home was the simple yet attractive concept behind a competition from first-homebuyer specialist builder the Homebuyers Centre.
First-homebuyer Samantha Horsman and Cameron Powell had been announced as the winners of the $80,000 Win Your First Home prize and will have the opportunity to build a compact three-bedroom, one-bathroom design called the Topaz from the builder’s Gems Range.
Ms Horsman and Mr Powell had only recently got engaged when they entered the competition late last year and said that winning was “a real dream come true”.
“At the moment we’re living with my parents, but we were really keen to buy our own home, though we weren’t sure how we were ever going to afford it because I’m still studying and we’re also planning to get married next year,” Ms Horsman, 21, said.
The couple have decided to build their new home at the Settlers Hills estate in Baldivis, favouring its proximity to the freeway and “fantastic community”.
They said they were “so excited and couldn’t be happier”.
Young first-homebuyers like Ms Horsman and Mr Powell often found it difficult to get on the housing ladder, which was why the Homebuyers Centre had decided to run the competition, explained sales and marketing manager Jared Stone.
“The reality is that home ownership gives young West Australians the freedom to choose how they live in their own home, along with the peace of mind of knowing they are planning their long-term financial security,” Mr Stone said.
“We were really pleased to run the competition to help one young couple and we’re genuinely delighted for Samantha and Cameron; it’s just great to give them such a fantastic boost as they start out on their lives together.”
Due to the popularity of the competition, Mr Stone said that the company had decided to launch another Win Your First Home contest, which was now open for entries and would be drawn on July 15.
