Affordability and functionality are key components of the Capri display home, reports Maureen Eppen.

Structural boundaries have been eliminated between the living area, dining room and kitchen in the Homebuyers Centre's new Capri display, creating a big and functional casual living zone with great potential.

This open area links to all other parts of the house, plus an alfresco area under the main roof.

The kitchen, in one corner, has a modified galley layout with the stainless-steel cooking appliances in a row of cabinets against one wall, between the pantry and fridge recess. Two small glazed panels above the bench bring natural light to the work areas.

A parallel island houses the double sink, with a breakfast bar on its outside edge.

At the front of the house, a screen wall divides the entry and thoroughfare from the theatre room, effectively defining the space without closing it off.

The main suite has a spacious sleeping area, parents' retreat in the boxed bay area below a big corner window, twin walk-in robes and an ensuite with outsized shower, two-door squareform vanity unit with extended benchtop and separate toilet.

Three minor bedrooms are in a wing at one side of the living zone, with the bathroom and laundry creating buffers between bedrooms for privacy.

Sales and marketing manager for display Jared Stone said the flexibility and potential of the open-plan casual living zone were already generating a positive response from visitors.

"We’ve included an area between the kitchen and alfresco that really opens the place up and the big window brings warmth and natural light into the living zone," Mr Stone said.

"The kitchen set-up is also a little bit different to what people have come to expect, and it works really well in relation to the dining area and the alfresco."

The design team addressed affordability by keeping the home square, reducing construction costs and maximising the potential of evert square metre of floor space, he said.

"About 95 per cent of our clients are first homebuyers, so our designers are constantly striving to find ways to combine affordability with functionality in a design that appeals to this section of the market."
