Compact homes a good start

Australians might have on average the biggest homes in the world but it’s increasingly being said that both smaller lot sizes and houses will be essential to deal with urban sprawl and housing affordability.

First-homebuyer specialist builder Homebuyers Centre is tackling this issue with a new series of fully finished compact homes that aim to give first-time buyers a foothold in the housing market.

The Primo Collection offers a selection of two-bedroom, one-bathroom homes in Ellenbrook, with prices starting from $268,900 for both the house and land.

“Affordability has been a major issue over the past five years or so as property prices have skyrocketed on the back of the previous boom,” explained Homebuyers Centre sales and marketing manager Jared Stone.

“We put our heads together with the guys from (developer) LWP Property Group and came up with this collection, which allows people to get their foot in the door and jump into the property market.”

The homes were being sold completely finished, with extras such as courtyard paving and landscaping, floor coverings, window treatments, clothes dryers and dishwashers all included.

“It means you don’t have to go and build the house yourself and there are no progress payments to be made during construction – the house is finished.”

They were also located either “basically on” or across the road from parks, eliminating the need for big gardens and helping to save on costs and maintenance.

Mr Stone envisaged that the homes would appeal not only to first-homebuyers but also to downsizers and people looking for a lock-up-and-leave home.

Two Primo Collection display homes are now open in Ellenbrook, with the first release available to buy now and to be followed by more homes from the collection in the area.
